Welcome to Nellie Bennett Kindergarten!
Point Pleasant is excited to offer a full day kindergarten program. The full day program has a variety of experiences. Your child will attend special area classes such as: Art, Music, Computers, Library, Spanish, and Physical Education. This means that they will begin meeting new people their very first day!
McGraw Hill Reading
Our Kindergarten reading program exposes the children to many areas of language arts. They begin by exploring books, stories, rhymes and songs. Although the titles may be familiar to them, the activities that accompany the program expose children to various pre- reading skills. Early on in the program, your child will be exposed to high frequency sight words. The children will learn letter sounds, and will practice blending those sounds together to read words, and even little books!
Everyday Math
Everyday Math incorporates math into everyday activities and play, allowing children to develop a mathematical intuition and understanding. Six different content areas, or strands, are covered throughout the program: Numeration, Data & Chance, Geometry, Operations & Computation, Patterns, and Measurement (including money and clocks/calendars). We will play a variety of games in class, many of which you can play at home with your child. The Mathematics at Home books that your child's teacher will send home include many useful ideas for all kinds of math fun you can have with your child.
Throughout the school year, your child will experience school assembly programs and be able to participate in other PTO sponsored activities. This will be in addition to other individual classroom teacher activities and programs.
