Summer Reading

Parents and educators know the value of summer reading as the key to developing life-long reading habits. Studies have confirmed what we already know -- that students who read throughout the summer months experience increased academic performance when school resumes in the fall.

In order to foster an enthusiasm for reading this summer, our student will be introduced to exciting and interesting reading options by our school and local librarians. While enjoying GREAT books, our Summer Reading Program participants will have the opportunity to earn terrific prizes.

THE GRAND PRIZE FOR EACH SCHOOL IS AN APPLE iPAD!!!

The more you read the BETTER your chances -- so keep reading!!!

Thank you to the Point Pleasant Foundation for your endorsement and generous financial support of this program.

Point Pleasant students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 will be encouraged to begin their summer reading on June 14th and continue through the summer, frequenting the local library on a regular basis. Students who elect to participate in our program will be recognized in a school based program -- as well as by the school district and the community in a special recognition program in September, honoring our SUPER readers.

IMPORTANT
The Summer Reading Program will begin on June 14th and conclude August 13th. Please encourage your child to select books appropriate for their age and ability! Most importantly HAVE FUN READING!!!
Winners and participants will be announced in September.

SUMMER READING THEMES
Tying in with the national summer reading program, Point Pleasant will be using the themes Make a Splash at Your Library for entering grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade, and Make Waves at Your Library for entering grades 9 through 12. Because this year's program has an aquatic theme, a different sea creature has been selected to represent each grade. Please see the list below of Sea creatures and the corresponding grade. Please select the grade level the students will be entering in the fall. When a student finishes reading a book, they should report to the Point Pleasant Borough Branch of the Ocean County Library to have their reading diary card stamped. Upon completion of the card, students will submit the card to the library staff. Be sure that the completion card you submit corresponds to the correct grade level and for the elementary schools, please make sure the color card corresponds to your school. The more completion cards submitted, the better the chances are a student will win a prize.
