The program for a student taking performing arts courses is designed to stress the value of each individual’s capability to make music/theatre an important part of his/her life for the present and the future. This aesthetic development can take place in daily rehearsals, performances, listening or music theory skills.
The courses are designed to acquaint the student with all phases of music/theatre. All courses, in individual ways, are designed to help the student discover an approach to both the art and craft of music/theatre which is both personal and fundamental. These courses offer the student the opportunities, with the teacher’s guidance, to explore the relationships of music/theatre to the individual, to society and to the arts. These courses are also designed to allow the student to achieve a perception of him/her in music/theater and most importantly to develop and broaden a concept of self through musical theatre.
While some students are preparing for a vocation in the performing arts, the main objective for the student is to develop skills for use in an avocational manner.
The philosophy, for the Performing Arts Department, is to provide many opportunities for the population of the school.
