From The Director's Desk
To assure that all students are equipped with the essential skills necessary to acquire knowledge, and understanding; To instill the desire to question and look for truth so that students may become critical thinkers and life-long learners; and, To assure that all students practice self-discipline, perseverance, fairness, and judicious decision making.
It is the expectation of this school district that all pupils achieve the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards at all grade levels.
This is a very exciting time in education. The national movement to implement Common Core standards in language arts and mathematics, as well as a comprehensive assessment system through the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), will certainly impact instruction in all K-12 classrooms.
In the Point Pleasant School District, we have already begun planning, preparing, and changing to meet the rigorous demands of the Common Core. Our teachers have developed new units of study, aligned materials and resources to support differentiated instruction, and created assessments that will be more closely aligned to the new state tests that will be administered in the 2014-2015 school year.
We will continue to look for ways to enhance and improve existing programs and structures so that our students achieve at high levels across all disciplines. The Point Pleasant School District supports ongoing learning embedded in practice. Our goals include:
- Creating a culture of professional growth and learning
- Expanding opportunities for collaboration
- Supporting teachers with content expectations and best practices
- Revising curriculum and aligning resources
